Have you found yourself avoiding certain places, conversations, or situations? Do you feel like the only people you can trust are on the job? Do you no longer engage in hobbies or activities you once enjoyed? Do you feel detached from others or find it difficult to experience happiness and satisfaction? Are you having nightmares or difficulty sleeping? How has your profession changed you? Have you lost relationships with loved ones or long-time family friends? Do memories or images from calls linger? Has hypervigilance and cumulative stress left you restless, irritable, or fatigued? Have these led to resentment or negative beliefs about yourself and the world?
About Corey M. Williams, MA, LMHCA, CCTP
The stakes are high, and you’re too important. I have helped many first responders no longer struggle with depression or anxiety. Many of my clients have experienced post-traumatic growth. What will your life be like once you overcome fatigue, restlessness, or irritability? Imagine what your life could look like if you no longer struggled with worry, despair, and hopelessness.

I am passionate about helping first responders, military veterans, and their families. I am motivated to support those who serve and help others. I have twenty-five years of experience as a military veteran and first responder. I am still an active law enforcement officer. I understand the unique stressors these communities and their families endure. I know what it is like to serve in a high-demand, high-integrity environment. I am also a proud Navy veteran where I served on a non-compliant Visit Board Search and Seizure Team (VBSS), during an Expeditionary Maritime Interdiction Operation deployment.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). I have a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have been working in a private practice setting, dedicated to first responders, for three years.

What to Expect in Counseling
At Agate Counseling, I offer several types of effective evidence-based treatments that have helped others find relief. It doesn’t have to take years to get unstuck from intrusive, unwanted, negative thoughts, avoidance and isolation, distorted ideas, negative self-talk, or risky and out-of-character behavior. Many of my clients have felt significantly better in less than a few months. I individualize your treatment to meet your needs. We will work together in a way that connects you with your values and helps you take back your life, so you can do more of what matters.

I utilize an existential approach to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or in other words, I'll help you stop avoiding or denying your inner emotions. We will work to live life consistent with your values. I also use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to reduce the vividness and intense emotion associated with traumatic memories. EMDR is extensively researched and widely accepted as an effective method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. There is growing evidence to suggest it also works well in treating anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences. I also integrate Internal Family Systems, a method that helps you get to your core or true self by healing those wounded parts of you that contribute to self-destructive or self-limiting behavior.

I am here to help you overcome feeling drained, worn out, burnt out, stressed, alone, or even hopeless. I’ve worked with many first responders to foster resiliency and cope with cumulative stress, trauma exposure, and administrative betrayal.
